Reagan May Racing Into First Place

By Robert Kelly

This is a person who's known she wanted to drive race cars since she was only nine years old. This passion she was seemingly born with has led her to follow her dreams and achieve many successes along the way. Now, over a decade after she first decided upon her ambitious dream, Reagan May Racing is inspiring people everywhere to show them that no matter who you are, you can do whatever you want.

At the Luxemburg Speedway, May received the award for the IMCA Youngest Winner. At the age of only 16, she was awarded the Rookie of the Year Award. TUNDRA has also named her the 2014 Rookie of the Year, and her achievements on the track show no sign of stopping.

May was the second-ever female winner of the TUNDRA Super Late Model Series. This is an important achievement for women everywhere. It makes it a lot easier for young women to feel they can chase this dream when there is someone they can relate to who has achieved success.

May comes from a whole family of drivers. Both her father Kip and her brother Parker were racers, and so she has plenty of opportunities to develop her skills and learn about the sport as she was growing up. May's mother is also involved in the driving scene, always there in the pits to help out.

In addition to her experience and involvement as a driver, she also has attended Michigan Technological University. There, she studied and got her degree in Mechanical Engineering. This gives her a leg up on the competition because she is able to solve car problems as they happen.

Since it is hard for anyone to become great in a sport like this, May says that she looks up to anyone who has managed to achieve widespread success in competitive driving. She especially looks up to the successful women because, like many of the sports out there, it is almost always men who are the dominant figures in it. One of her greatest role models, however, is her dad, known for racing SCCA.

It can be hard to feel comfortable on every single track that a driver has to race on, and this can present some challenges when traveling to different locations to race. May feels that she is just as comfortable on one track to the next, which is a huge advantage for someone who travels a lot. For this reason, there is no one specific track that she calls her home.

It is the competitiveness of the sport that gets this driver feeling really involved and excited about it. One of the things she loves best about the competitive aspect is that even though they are trying to best each other on the track, they always walk away from it as best of friends. She sees the other racers and people in this community as one big family, and that is something she really enjoys about the sport.
