Money Savings When Using Remanufactured Engines

By Harold Davis

Your vehicle will at some point suffer a major breakdown and will require new mechanical repairs and spares to be fitted. In some severe cases a complete new power unit may be required to get the car back on the road. This can be very costly and there are some advantages when using remanufactured engines to get the car up and running again.

A factory produced engine for a modern day car will cost thousands of dollars and for some high end vehicles, in excess of tens of thousands. There are many firms trading that will take old or damaged engines and recondition them to make them as new again. These units are environmentally friendly, a lot cheaper and will usually function as well as a stock engine.

There are a two ways of getting a remanufactured unit for your car and both have benefits. A ready to go unit can be purchased from a company that specializes in refurbishing or you can send your broken unit and have it attended to. Both of these options are much cheaper than buying a new unit from one of the car makers.

There are a number of auto stores in most towns and cities that can source an engine that will be suitable for your car. All of the major car models will be catered for and if they have a suitable unit in stock it will normally be ready to install. If they do not have what you are looking for, they can easily order one for you, and they will then contact you when it is ready for collection or delivery.

Another useful way to find a replacement power plant is to look on the internet at one of the many engineering firms that advertise. Their web pages will have a full list of stock for you to browse and if you place your order they will usually dispatch it overnight. It can be worth calling or emailing them before finalizing the order to make sure that what you are buying is correct for your model.

If one of the companies does not have a suitable engine in stock they will sometimes ask you to send your unit in for them to recondition. Their team will carry out all of the work needed to get it running and then send it back to you for fitting. Many companies will offer a useful service where they can collect your car, attend to the engine and get the vehicle delivered back to you.

If you need to use a shipping firm to send your unit for rebuild there are some important things for you to consider. A car engine is a heavy, bulky item and will be fairly expensive to ship due to the firms charging by weight. Always ensure that everything is well packed and find insurance cover in case your crate gets lost or damaged in transit.

The engine remanufacturing firms will usually offer some kind of workmanship guarantee with their product. This could be a one year warranty or in other cases a mileage based guarantee. Any official documents that detail this warranty should be kept safely in case you need to make claims at a later date after a major failure with the unit.
